Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman living in Baltimore during the 50’s whose cancer cells were take and propagated and live today. She was not give informed consent or permission for her cells to be used in extensive medical research for the last 60+ years. Please read the Wikipedia entry for a summary of the story so the chapters can be contextualized in your mind.

Write a 5 sentence paragraph responding to the reading. You can answer the following questions:

1) How has informed consent changed since Ms. Lack’s Death? ‘

2) What is the relationship between science and race, gender, vulnerable populations (prisoners, sick people, etc.) in this book?
