In this project, you open and save a macro-enabled workbook for Perfect Vacation Rentals. You enable macros, run a macro to enter the date statement, and record a macro with absolute references.
File Needed: PerfectRentals-08.xlsm (Student data files are available in the Library of your SIMnet account.)

- Check macro security and show the Developer tab.
- Click the Options command [File tab] and select Trust Center in the left pane.
- Choose Trust Center Settings and click Macro Settings in the left pane.
- Verify or select the Disable VBA macros with notification button and click OK. (Corporate and early Excel versions may display Disable all macros with notification.)
- Click Customize Ribbon in the left pane of the Excel Options dialog box.
- Select the Developer check box in the Main Tabs list and click OK.
- Open the PerfectRentals-08.xlsm workbook from your student data files and click Enable Content in the security warning. (You may not see a warning if you have previously enabled macros in this work session.)
- Save the workbook as a macro-enabled workbook.
- Click the File tab and select Save As.
- Navigate to your folder for saving files.
- Edit the file name to [your initials] PP E8-1.
- Verify the file type or click the Save as type arrow and choose Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook (.xlsm).
- Click Save.
- Run a macro.
- Select cell F1. The InsertDate macro was recorded with relative references so you must position the insertion point before running it.
- Click the Macros button [Developer tab, Code group] to open the Macro dialog box.
- Select InsertDate in the macros list. The description for the macro explains what it will do.
- Click Run to insert the date statement.
- Note in the Formula bar that the macro has inserted a nested CONCAT function.
- Record a VBA macro with absolute references.
- Verify that the Use Relative References button is not selected [Developer tab, Code group].
- Click the Record Macro button [Developer tab, Code group].
- Type Welcome in the Macro name box.
- Click the Shortcut key box, press Shift, and type w. The keyboard shortcut for the macro is Ctrl+Shift+W.
- Verify that This Workbook displays in the Store macro in box.
- Click the Description box and type Display welcome message. (Figure 8-10).
- Click OK to begin recording.
- Select cell F2. This is the first step in the macro, to move the active cell to cell F2.
- Click the Home tab and click the Bold button [Font group].
- Click the Italic button [Font group]. The macro will apply bold and italic.
- Change the font size to 14.
- Type Welcome to PVR! and press Enter. This action completes the label and moves to cell F3.
- Click the Stop Recording button [Developer tab, Code group].
- Test the macro with the keyboard shortcut.
- Select cell F2.
- Click the Clear button [Home tab, Editing group] and choose Clear All to delete the label and the formatting.
- Select cell F7.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+W to run the macro. The macro inserts the message in cell F2.
- Hide the Developer tab if instructed to do so.
- Save and close the workbook (Figure 8-11).
