Opioid Epidemic

Topic: There is an opioid epidemic in this country but more specifically Indiana. More and more patients are addicted to painkillers. Hospitals are running out of room for the overdosed patients. Lawmakers are trying to address this issue. Your task is to write a white paper and a grant related to this opioid epidemic.

Part 1- Research PaperYour assignment is to research the opioid epidemic. You will create a white paper that will address each step in paragraph format.

1. Be creative with the title.

2. Your white paper should include the following information:

a. Abstract (you may want to write the entire paper first and then write the abstract).

b. Introduction/Summary- Introduce the topic and give a summary of the issue.

c. Background/Problems- Give evidence about the topic that includes qualitative and quantitative data and secondary data. Analyze and synthesize the information. What are the laws that relate to the opioid epidemic?

d. Solution-What are the components, elements and steps to solving the problem? What are barriers to your new solution? How do you get past it? I don’t want to hear what others think about this topic. I want you to come up with your own situation. You should come up with a Call to Action! What can a Health Information Mangement (HIM) professionals do? What can be done from a legal perspective? Answer these questions but include additional information Be detailed!

e. Conclusion- Wrap up the paper to make sure that I understand your paper.

f. References- You should cite your source in APA style format using in-text citations and in the reference list. Failure to cite your source will result in an F for the paper.

You should build your Reference page as you complete each section.

You must cite any ideas that are not your own.

Use APA style format and have both in-text citations and a reference page.

Paper will submit it through Turnitin*

Your paper should be 10 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman and 12-point font.

You should have at least 7 scholarly resources.

Part 2- Grant Proposal

You will take the research you did in Part 1 and create a grant proposal. You will not submit it to the National Institute of Health. You will turn it into the teacher. The grant application can be found at the following website from the National Institutes of Health (PHS 398: Version 3/2016, https://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html).
