The Hamilton Civic Center is developing a template for counting daily visits by purpose. You review an existing spin button and copy it to complete the form. You also insert a list box control. You then create a new workbook from the template.

  1. Open the HamiltonCC-07 workbook from your student data files and save it with a thumbnail image as [your initials] Excel 7-6Template in the default templates folder.
  2. Review and edit a spin button form control.
    1. Right-click the spin button control on the Daily sheet.
    2. Review the settings on the Control tab; note that the linked cell to the left of the control displays the results.
    3. Click the Protection tab and deselect the Locked box.
    4. Click the Alt Text tab and add the following: This is a spinner control to count clients..
    5. Click OK.
  3. Copy and edit form controls.
    1. Confirm that the control is selected.
    2. Copy it to the Clipboard and paste it.
    3. Drag the copied control to cell C7.
    4. Paste again and drag the second copy to cell C9.
    5. Paste three times and position the controls as shown in Figure 7-86.
    6. Select all six controls and align them on the right.
    7. Right-click the control in cell C7 and change the Cell link to cell $B$7.
    8. Edit the linked cell for each of the controls.
    9. Delete any values that display in column B.
  4. Insert a list box form control.
    1. Display the Developer tab on the Ribbon if it is not shown.
    2. Select cell E2 and unlock it. This will be the linked cell for the control.
    3. Draw a list box control to cover cells E2:F2.
    4. Format the control to use the list on the Data sheet and assign cell E2 as the linked cell.
    5. Verify that the Selection type is Single.
    6. Deselect the Locked property on the Protection tab. This unlocks the actual control.
    7. Size the control to reach row 4 (Figure 7-87).
    8. Select cell A3.
  5. Unlock cells and protect a sheet.
    1. Select cells B5B7B9B11B13, and B15 and unlock them.
    2. Mark the logo on the Daily sheet as decorative.
    3. Select cell B5 and protect the Daily sheet without a password.
  6. Save and close the template.
  7. Create a workbook from the template.
    1. Save the new workbook as [your initials] Excel 7-6 in your usual folder for saving files.
    2. Select Wednesday in the list box control.
    3. Use the spin button controls to complete the counts in column B (Figure 7-88).
    4. Save and close the workbook.
  8. Hide the Developer tab.
  9. Move [your initials] Excel 7-6Template from the Custom Office Templates folder to your usual work folder.
