Impact of Digital Technologies on Cities

Choose a town or city that you have a connection with – this may be your home city, or one that you have visited or have connections with via family or business. Gather research and make notes on how digital technologies have been used to make your chosen town or city “smarter”. Make sure that you directly draw upon relevant content/discussions presented on Week 5 -for example, you may choose to focus on how technology has been used to integrate the transport infrastructure, improve efficiencies and lifestyles, or enhance environmental sustainability.

Create a one-slide poster that summarizes your research in a visually impactful way. We are expecting you to demonstrate your own digital skills in manipulating text and graphics to create an effective and interesting poster. Posters can be created in your chosen format (e.g. infographic, Word, PowerPoint slide). They should be visible on one screen without the reader scrolling or zooming in/out, and provide an overview of your ideas in a structured and engaging way. Please note this does NOT involve squeezing in large amounts of text – less is definitely more! You should include any references that provide the evidence base for the ideas in your poster, but this can be in very small font across the bottom of your poster in order to take up minimal space.

The markers of your work will be looking for:

• Clear and creative communication of your ideas in a poster format
  • Evidence of engagement with the module materials and discussions on the topic of “smart cities”
  • Evidence of further research into the nature and IMPACT of your chosen example
• How any challenges experienced in its development were addressed
