Research Paper and Root Cause Analysis

Topic:
Herniated Disk: A condition in which the pulpy center of an intervertebral disk protrudes through a weakened or torn surrounding outer ring.

This task will require you to work independently to learn about potential root causes of a common work-related musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) of your choice. A sign-up sheet has been posted to prevent duplicates. To complete this assignment, you will identify at least three quality peer-reviewed scientific papers (although more may be required) related to the MSD of your choice. Informed by that evidence, you will complete a causal factor chart, and root causes map of your selected MSD. In addition, you will prepare a written summary (with references) outlining the background information about the injury and the results of your analysis which includes a section on your critical appraisal of each paper. This entire paper, including all figures and supplementary pages (ex: title page, references…) minimum 5 pages but should not exceed 10 pages total.

PowerPoint Presentation:

The purpose of this presentation is to give your classmates as much information as you can in 5 minutes to help them prevent these issues from arising in the future. Your presentation should highlight your RCA findings and your causal factors, focusing on activities that should be reduced in order to keep workers from developing that RSI. This should be a PRACTICAL presentation, not a review of literature! Please do not summarize each of the individual papers you read, but rather provide an overall summary of what you learned from your research.
