Hamlet analytical essay
Hamlet is one of Shakespeare’s most introspective characters. However, in Act IV, as he agonizes once again over his hesitation to take revenge for his father’s death, he confesses, “I do not know / Why yet I live to say ‘This thing’s to do,’ / Sith I have cause, and will, and strength, and means / To do’t” (203). Does Hamlet not know why he hesitates to take revenge? Or does he know why he hesitates but fear to admit it to himself? How well does Hamlet know himself? What does the play suggest about our ability to know ourselves?
