Group Conflict and Reconciliation

Presentation Prompt
Spring 2024

we will all facilitate the course!

In particular, you will teach about a real-world conflict of your choice.
In this presentation, you should:
• Teach your conflict. Provide enough information that someone who is unfamiliar can understand. Who are the relevant groups? Is the conflict driven by perceived threat or competition? Do the groups differ in status or power? Do the groups in the conflict have “conflict supportive mindsets”? Does the conflict involve violence? What material from the course is most relevant to understand the conflict?
• Describe an intervention. Describe your ideas for how to reach justice and/or reconciliation. Draw ideas from the final portions of our course, in which we discussed reconciliation.
Here’s some practical details:
• The conflict that you choose is up to you.
• Please go to this google sheet by 4/5: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VYFo4S1o71VUsK5FZGIVpDJVH6mJYQh0PaxzI4WJr7Q/edit?usp=sharing
o Include your name.
o Include the conflict you will tackle.
• You can present solo or in groups
o You can work solo – in which case you will have 10 to 12 minutes to give your presentation, followed by a few questions. You can go solo if you would like to do so even if other students have selected the same conflict as you.
o You can work in a group with other students who have selected the same conflict as you.
 If you pursue this option, you should let me know by 4/9 via email, including the name of all group members.
 Each group member should plan to speak as part of the presentation.
 It is expected that group presentations will be longer than the 12 minutes allotted for individual presentations. When you let me know the number of group members with whom you will work, we will discuss the specific time limit.
Reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have! I am excited to see what you come up with!
