Every story has a “story”. Novellas are short stories written for purpose and enjoyment. Some stand alone as a book, like Jonah while others are part of a book like Rahab in the Book of Judges. There are two parts to this final project. You will be graded on the quality of your responses that reflect research as well as the research resources used in composing it. Old Testament study is extensive. It is as essential that you know how to research further as it is that you have a good foundation and basic knowledge of the Old Testament. Choices: choose one. Women mentioned in the Genealogy of Jesus from the Old Testament: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth (also a book). Esther, Deborah, Judith Tobit, Job, Jonah, Another: check with me first for another choice. Carvalho- Read pp. 402-407 for some helpful background. Research: be sure to include the resources I provided before you go elsewhere on the web. Take notes and remember to copy the source for your bibliography right away. Begin to do your research first/make it easy on yourself! Composition: Outline: respond as follows. Topic: Book or Person 1) Information, factual or theoretical that have to do with authorship, place, date as far as can be estimated. 2) Political, historical or social information: story behind the story. 3) Cite literary techniques the author may have used. What makes it a great story? 4) Art: find a few paintings on the web. Post one that you think best tells the story in an art form. 5) Where is God in the story? 6) Given the spirit and intent of the author, how might this story be told today? Can you think of a parallel person, event or scenario? 7) Final comments- yours. Bibliography: Substantial research; minimum of 10-12 resources
