Discussion Board: Critical and Creative Thinking Module 1

Purpose:  Using discussion board posts, students will share knowledge and experience on the topic below using scholarly message board forums.  Discussion board post will allow for professional discussion and feedback among students exercising cognitive and critical thinking skills, which allows for thoughtful reflection on the topic.

For this discussion board assignment, students have the option to write about one of the two topics. Students will choose one of the below topics and follow the instructions for that topic.

Topic Choice 1: This assignment target ELOs 400-SMC-1015.27 (L105: Assessments) and 400-SMC-1015.02 (L103: Introduction to Critical Thinking and Problem Solving).

Assignment Instructions: Post a substantial initial response, with at least 1 cited source and a minimum of 350 words. Identify references following the post using APA format.  Additionally, respond to at least 2 posts of your classmates, with at least 1 cited source each and a minimum of 150 words per response for full participation credit. See Form 1009C-DL for specific requirements.

Topic of Discussion: Analyze the concepts and theories you read about in L103, L104, and L105; utilizing key language and terms from these concepts and theories, in an essay format, explain the importance of critical thinking (L103) and creative thinking (L104) to a Sergeant Major, and how the Sergeant Major should incorporate critical thinking to come up with measurable (L105) creative results (L104) to solve problems within an organization.
