Based on community data, you need to identify one health priority area. Analyze the data and identify what partner agencies you can work with to address the issue. A health priority are could be suicide, teen births, tobacco use, alcohol or substance abuse, obesity, etc. Make sure the data indicates it is an area for improvement.
Assignment:
In a word document, please complete the following components of a community and data analysis. Please use bold headings for each section in your paper!
- Community Overview- 25 Points, 2-3 paragraphs
Explain Mesa County. Please include all of these details: population size and race/ethnicities, major employers, family size, education level (college degree, high school diploma, etc.) income, etc. Do not explain the terrain, county location, etc. I want you to explain the people who live in Mesa County.
- Needs Statement- 40 Points, 4-6 paragraphs
Use data sources to identify one priority area you want to focus on. Discuss what the county data indicates by comparing it to previous years and comparing Mesa County data to state and national data. Make sure you include the actual numbers/data (rates, percentages) in your paper. In order for your selected topic to be a concern, the data needs to show that Mesa County has room to improve because that data shows Mesa County is doing worse than the state and nation! Is there a specific target population (gender, race/ethnicity, religion, etc)? Explain why the issue needs to be addressed; what are the long-term health effects (ex: tobacco use in teens leads to tobacco use as an adult. Teen moms are less likely to graduate from High School, etc.). Pull in supporting information from CDC, FDA, Healthy People 2030, etc.
- Community Partner- 25 Points, 2 paragraphs
It’s always important to collaborate. Based on the priority area you have selected, choose an appropriate community partner. Explain the partner agency, their mission, and why they are a good fit to help you address the needs you have identified in section 2. Example: If you want to increase physical activity, a potential partner could be the local YMCA.
- Formatting- 10 Points
Use APA format. Text should be 12 point, appropriate font, double-spaced, with one inch margins. Include a APA formatted title page, headings, in-text citations and a references page. No need for an abstract. See the APA tools for support with proper layout and formatting.
