Career Exploration Paper

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with the opportunity to reflect on their wants and needs in a career. Student learning objectives to be met are: job searching and job description analysis. Students will also learn the specific job boards that are commonly used in the sport industry.

Skills to be Gained:

• Analytical skills
• Job search skills
• Writing skills
• Organizational skills

Knowledge to be Gained:

• The different types of jobs that exist in sport communication
• The various job boards that can be used in the sport industry
• Self-reflection skills to aid in the development of student skills

Tasks:

Students will compare and contrast three job opportunities within the sport management field that they found on various job boards. Paper must be 3-5 pages long.

Use the following as a checklist for your paper:

• Did you identify three jobs you found?
• Did you compare and contrast each position?
• Did you identify the skills you currently have to fill that role?
• Did you identify the skills you DO NOT have to fulfill that role?
• Did you create a developmental plan as to how you will develop skills to be more qualified for that role?
