Criminology

• Questions will be gleaned from the following chapters:
  • Section I: Introduction to the Book: An Overview of Issues in Criminological Theory
  • Section II: Pre-classical and Classical Theories of Crime
  • Section IV: Early Positive School Perspectives of Criminality
  Note: There are two parts to Exam One. Question one is specific to Section I in your textbook. Question two is specific to Section II and Section IV in your textbook. You may also refer to supplemental readings if you choose, but be sure to cite those in-text if you do. Question 1 should be 300 words. Question 2 should be 500 words. Use APA 7 format.

1. Explain why theory-based criminological explanations of crime are best! Be sure to explain the characteristics of a good theory and the necessary criteria for determining causality in your answer. (30 Points)
2. Differentiate classical rational choice theories of crime from individual positivism theories of crime. Be sure to include a historical discussion and a summary of the underlying assumptions of all theories covered in Module two in your answer. Don’t forget to comment on the policy implications of classical rational choice and individual positivism theories of crime. (70 Points)
